YBMA

We build what businesses need, and we stay to make it work.

YBMA is an operating company. We build the systems a business needs, and stay close once they're running. YBMA Technology is where that's most visible: practical software, built around how a business actually works.

What YBMA does

Building is the easy half. Running something well, for years, is the work.

A business rarely fails for want of an idea. It fails because nobody is close enough to it, for long enough, to see what is going wrong while it is still small.

So YBMA is built as an operator. For a business that already exists, that means building the systems it needs and staying close once they're running: the decisions, the numbers, the people who use them. For an idea we believe in ourselves, it means building the business and running it the same way. Either way, nothing we build is left to fend for itself.

  • We build it

We're there from the first decision: building for a business, or building one of our own.

  • We run it

We stay responsible for how it works once it's real, not just for building it.

  • We keep one standard

Everything YBMA builds is held to the same way of working. That is what makes it a company rather than a collection.

The technology business

Technology

Practical technology, built around how a business actually works.

Internal systems, reporting, integrations, automation and custom applications. We build technology the way we run businesses: start with the work, find where it gets stuck, and build what removes the friction.

  • Internal systems and toolsThe software a business runs on day to day: the records, the workflows, the approvals and the handoffs between people, built around how the work is actually done.
  • Reporting and dashboardsA clear, current view of what is happening, for the people who have to decide. Read in the morning, on a phone, without asking anyone.
  • Integrations and automationThe connections between the tools a business already uses, so information moves between them and nobody types it twice.
  • Custom applicationsSoftware for one business and the people it serves, internal or customer-facing, when nothing off the shelf fits the way it works.
  • Websites and digital productsThe front door of a business and the products behind it, built to be owned, understood and run by the people who use them.

How we work

Five rules that decide most arguments before they start.

These are the rules we use when a decision is difficult: what to quote, what to refuse, what to tell a client they don't need.

  1. 01

    Know the real number

A flattering figure is not a figure. We would rather give you a number you can act on than one you enjoy.

  2. 02

Run it, not just own it

Building is the easy half. We stay responsible for how a business works once it is real, and for what it earns.

  3. 03

    Plain speech

If a client cannot explain what they bought, we have not sold it. We have taken money.

  4. 04

    Nothing we cannot hand over

Ownership is a contract term, not a gesture. Nothing we build is built to need us.

  5. 05

Built for how things actually run

Light, fast, and usable on the device and the connection people really have. If it only works in ideal conditions, it does not work.

The long view

One standard, whatever the business.

YBMA builds and operates businesses in areas where there is room to make something useful and lasting. Each one carries the YBMA name, and each one is run the same way: the real number, plain speech, nothing built to need us.

Technology is one of the ways we build and operate, and the clearest place to see how we work.
